Topics will cover fire behaviour, vegetation management, bushfire survival plan, water access, your own water supply if on tank, and hazard reduction burns.

Villeneuve Rural Fire Brigade secretary, Paul Carolan, said the purpose of the event was to inform about rural fire prevention and safety, including things residents can and cannot do.

“We consider our relationship with our community a two-way street that we take seriously,” Mr Carolan said.

“We want to communicate with people that us and they can be as well prepared for the next fire season as possible.”

Invitations have been sent to both Somerset Regional Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council, and so far, one councillor from MBRC is expected to attend.

A free sausage sizzle, tea and coffee will be available in addition to a variety of information packs, while children can grab a small sample bag and have a photo taken with the fire brigade’s appliances.

New members are always welcome, although they are advised to bear in mind that they are required to attend at least once a month.

“The experience and knowledge you gain from training and working an active fire can be invaluable for you and your family,” Mr Carolan said.

“Like anything in life, you only get out of it what you put into it.”
