Workforce plan to boost tourism along Rail Trail
Queensland Country Tourism (QCT) has launched the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Tourism Workforce Development Plan at the QCT Somerset Networking Event at Splityard Social on October 9.

Funded by the Queensland Government through Jobs Queensland’s Grow Your Own Regional Workforce Program and developed with the University of Queensland, the plan aims to align future skills demand with local capability across tourism, hospitality, visitor services, and supporting trades along the 161-kilometre Brisbane Valley Rail Trail corridor.
QCT CEO Peter Homan said the initiative is an important milestone for the Somerset and South Burnett regions and their growing visitor economies. He noted that a skilled, sustainable local workforce will help regional businesses harness visitor growth and deliver exceptional experiences.
The Workforce Development Plan provides a pathway for local operators to address labour shortages, staff retention, training gaps, and career development, while building long-term regional capability. Mr Homan highlighted that the plan creates opportunities for locals and ensures the continued success of the visitor economy in Somerset and across Queensland Country.
